...now I’ve found a group of
people I enjoy spending time with.

“For people that need community, in general, especially international people, I know and I understand how difficult and dark it can get at some point. You may feel lonely… sometimes you may feel there’s no other choice. Fortunately, there is - not that it will fix everything, but it helps tremendously. Those in the church have been those that have helped me in those moments. It’s been a journey - I like where I am now, compared to when I [first] joined CHANGE, and when I moved.” - Martin

Martin’s story of finding a place where he has been accepted and welcomed resonates with those who have been searching for a community within Philadelphia, especially after moving, even internationally. After being invited to a service by someone from the CHANGE community, Martin discovered that church could be different than what he had known. Familiar with growing up in the Catholic church, he went from feeling and experiencing excluded to being accepted and included. After having people check in and get to know him for himself, Martin has discovered a space where he can feel comfortable and respected while discovering a different way to be in church. For people that need community, Martin encourages them to take the first step. Even if it feels challenging, just do it - try CHANGE - because we all understand that the first step is the most difficult one but, once you make the effort to be a part, you can actually find the friends and community you need.
